About Us
Celebrating Wisconsin's heritage and sustaining it for the future...

The Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation is a non-profit statewide member-supported organization. Our mission is to promote the preservation and revitalization of Wisconsin's diverse historic places, and advocate for their appreciation, protection and continued use.

Our vision is a greater appreciation of the cultural value of historic buildings and places in Wisconsin, and their relevance to modern life. We envision Wisconsinites promoting careful stewardship and active use of these diverse resources, and recognizing the economic and social benefits of preservation. We envision a State where preservation, adaptive reuse, and new development complement and reinforce thriving downtowns, healthy neighborhoods, and historic sites.

Historic places matter in Wisconsin. They are points of contact with our heritage, with the people who built Wisconsin's communities, and with the stories we all relate to. The Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation works to identify and celebrate those places. And we advocate for local, state and federal policies their continued use and presence in our communities.

The Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation seeks to bring together a coalition of like-minded groups and individuals to effectively promote a preservation ethics and policies at the local, state and national levels.

The Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Some Places that Matter in Wisconsin

Places that matter in Wisconsin are all around us. Buildings and settings that speak to us of a different time are important because they reveal much about Wisconsin's heritage. This sampling of images from across the state reflects a spectrum of building types, from simple vernacular structures to our state’s monuments.  Each contributes to a larger story.  Slide show images courtesy of Cornerstone Preservation, Cross Plains, WI.
